Youth Group: Bringing Young People Closer to Christ

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set the example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity.
1 Timothy 4:14 NIV

Mission Statement

Redeemer Lutheran youth group exists to bring youth closer to Christ by sharing faith, fun, and fellowship. We live to serve others, as Christ Jesus serves us as our Good Shepherd and Lord!

Projects

Redeemer’s youth group does projects to earn money to attend local youth retreats, Regional and National Youth Gatherings, and special trips. In the past, the youth group has bagged groceries at a local grocery store for tips. Other projects include spaghetti dinners and bake sales to raise money for special projects and servant events to encourage our congregation and community.

If you are interested in encouraging our youth group and community, joining it as a participant, or assisting with planning future events, please contact the pastor or youth leaders through the church office. Jake and Alex Jansen are our senior high youth group leaders, and they provide great opportunities to gather in Christ and to grow in his goodness and grace.

Retreats

Our local Lutheran camp, Camp Dixie, is on Perdido Bay in Josephine, Alabama. Camp Dixie holds youth retreats each summer for a week at a time for several different age groups. These fun events foster learning about God’s word, fellowship, and growing in faith. The retreats are open to young people from all of the local Lutheran churches’ youth groups, and they offer young people the opportunity to meet new friends from other congregations. Many generations of Redeemer’s youth have created lasting lifelong friendships and memories as a result of attending summer youth retreats at Camp Dixie! Funding may be available from the projects above for youth who might not normally be able to afford camp.

Trips

The National Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod Youth Gathering is an opportunity to travel and meet with thousands of other young Lutheran Christians from around the country. The National LCMS Youth Gathering takes place every three years, and it is for high school-aged youth. If you or a family member is interested in attending, contact the pastor or our youth leaders.

Higher Things also conducts gatherings for our youth. The mission of Higher Things is to assist parents, congregations, and pastors in cultivating, encouraging, and promoting a distinctively Lutheran identity among their youth and young adults.

Higher Things meetings are for middle school and high school-aged youth, focusing on those who are confirmed in our confession of faith. Meetings are held several times a year in different regions of the United States.
