Study: Learn About Our God and Our Faith

Learning about God, the Bible, and our faith is one of the primary missions of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Explore the various study opportunities we offer for all ages.

Book of Concord Study

The Book of Concord is the book of Lutheran confessions. It contains the writings of Martin Luther, which address the theological errors of the Church in Martin’s day. The practices that Papal Rome foisted upon the people were so egregious that Dr. Martin Luther challenged those teachings, using the Bible itself as his defense, sparking the Reformation. The book contains the three Ecumenical Creeds: the Apostle’s Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed (and discussions on their meanings & applications); the Augsburg Confession; the Apology (defense) of the Augsburg Confession; the Small and Large Catechisms; the Smalcald Articles, the Treatise On The Power And Primacy Of The Pope; and the Formula of Concord.

Each month, the men of Redeemer and Immanuel Lutheran Churches meet at one of the churches to read and discuss a selected portion of the Book of Concord. Pastors from each church lead the study and guide the lively discussions that stem from the material. The two congregations often take turns hosting the study on the second Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m. The study ends at noon, and then the men adjourn to a local restaurant for lunch and fellowship. Call or contact the church office to find out whose turn it is to host this upcoming second Saturday. This study usually does not meet during December due to the busy Advent Season.

Confirmation

We offer adult confirmation classes at various times throughout the year, covering the same material from Luther’s Small Catechism as outlined in our youth confirmation class information. Adult confirmation classes usually run from ten to twelve weeks, and they are open to anyone. These classes can lead to adult confirmation in the Lutheran Faith and full active membership in our church communion.

Ladies Bible Study

The ladies’ Tuesday morning Bible study meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 9:30 a.m. in our Assembly Hall, and sometimes at our Meeting House. We approach a variety of topics in our studies. We base some studies on topics that will give women insight into God’s Holy Word, while other studies will help women grow in faith and be ready to spread the Good News that we have in Jesus. We invite all ladies to consider joining us for our Tuesday study. Contact Karla Heinicke or Melanie Cole for further information.

LLL Monthly Gathering - Redeemer Lutheran Church Men's Group

The men’s group provides a means for the men of the congregation to work together in fellowship to grow spiritually and to support the goals of Redeemer Lutheran Church and School. The men’s group is open to all Christian men over 18 years of age, and we welcome visitors to our regularly scheduled activities.

The men’s group supports the Lutheran Hour Ministries’ goal: bringing Christ to the nations and the nations to Christ.

We have a charter as part of the Lutheran Laymen’s League, which is part of the Lutheran Hour Ministries. The men’s group is registered as part of the Men’s Network.

Men's Bible Breakfast

Our men’s Bible breakfast meets every Wednesday from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the Denny’s at 4625 Mobile Highway. We invite anyone interested in eating, fellowship, and reading the Word. Call Bob Heinicke or contact the church office for more information.

We enjoy coffee and conversation; eat breakfast; and read, study, and discuss a select chapter of a book from the Bible. God’s Word nourishes our souls, just as the fruits of his bounty and goodly fellowship nourish our bodies. We enter into lively discussions of current events and more.

This group has been meeting for nearly a dozen years. During this time, God has recalled several of the original group. But it’s conceivable that sooner rather than later, we will have read the entire Bible together here at the men’s Bible breakfast. Please come join us.

Sunday School

On Sunday school mornings, we gather in the Assembly Hall, by the gym, before going to other classrooms for our lessons.

Gathering times change with the seasons, so see the Home page for current Sunday school times.

Koffee Klatch: Join us in the activity center on Sunday mornings before Sunday school for coffee and goodies. We have some talented and gifted bakers in our adult classes, so come and share some wonderful goodies and fellowship before Sunday school starts.

Adult Sunday Bible Study: We offer two adult classes with rotating topics of interest and instructors on Sunday mornings, usually on an eight to twelve-week rotation.

Mission Offering: Redeemer’s Sunday school is proud to sponsor a mission or missionary every six months. We send a monetary gift from our mission offerings collected every Sunday. Our most recent recipients have been the Lutheran Heritage Foundation, Food for the Poor, and our adopted missionary.

Weekday Adult Bible Study

We offer adult Bible studies throughout the week, both during the day and in the evening. Please see the Sunday bulletin “This Week at Redeemer” section for times and topics.

Youth Study Opportunities

Confirmation

Our church provides confirmation classes to students enrolled in our school. Students learn Luther’s Small Catechism in the seventh grade. This includes instruction in the six chief articles of the Christian Faith as taught by the Small Catechism: The Ten Commandments, The Apostles’ Creed, The Lord’s Prayer, Baptism, The Lord’s Supper, and The Office of the Keys (Confession and Absolution – Forgiveness of Sins). Upon successful completion of the material and after examination, these Junior Confirmation students may receive the Rite of Confirmation and join our church as full members. We also offer classes at various times for Junior Confirmation students in the seventh grade who attend public schools, other schools, or homeschool. We schedule these classes on an as-needed basis; we usually conduct them beginning in the fall and concluding in late spring.

Redeemer Lutheran School

Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:7

Our Lutheran Day School has the proverb above as its motto.

Christian Education is one of Redeemer Lutheran Church’s primary missions. Visit our Redeemer Lutheran School website for more information.

Sunday School

We offer individual classes for children from four years old to fifth grade, using the Sunday school material provided by Concordia Publishing House. Middle school and high school teenage-focused lessons are both topical and Biblical.

On Sunday school mornings, we gather in the Assembly Hall, by the gym, before going to other classrooms for our lessons.

Gathering times change with the seasons, so see the Home page for current Sunday school times.

We also offer special Sunday school activities throughout the year. In September and December, our school children host special services where they share their faith. In August, right after school starts, we celebrate a school chapel-style service with a picnic afterwards for the whole family.

Vacation Bible School

We hold VBS on weekday evenings during a week in either June or July. We had a great time exploring “The Great Jungle Journey: An Epic Cruise from Genesis to Revelation” this past June! VBS is a great opportunity for your children entering first grade through fifth grade to learn and grow in God’s word through songs, praise, fun, faith-building activities, and Christian fellowship. Check back later for the 2026 VBS schedule.
